Weather in the Midwest is about as unpredictable as it gets. And perhaps no one knows this more than our area farmers. We want to work with you to make sure you’re protected in the event of extreme weather and its effects on your crops.

How Does Crop Insurance Work?

There are two types of crop insurance options available to farmers including crop hail insurance and multi-peril crop insurance (MPCI).

Crop Hail Insurance

Hail has a unique ability to destroy a significant part of your field while leaving the rest of your farm undamaged. In the tri-state area, hail damage can be a frequent event causing damage to many fields. Many of our farmers purchase a specific crop hail insurance policy to protect high-yielding crops. Crop hail policies are not part of the Federal Crop Insurance Program but can be purchased at any time during the growing season.

Multi-Peril Crop Insurance

Unlike crop hail damage insurance, multi-peril crop insurance (MPCI) must be purchased prior to planting but is the most common type of federal crop insurance. MPCI protects against loss of crop yields from all types of natural causes including drought, freeze, disease, flooding, fire, insects and more.
